World Toilet Day 2019, "Leaving No One Behind", is recognized by Potty Girl and the portable restroom industry on November 19th. This UN-Water event, World Toilet Day, is about nature-based solutions to our sanitation needs. The collaboration with government and partners focus on solutions with compost latrines and other natural resources. We support a world that has reliable, sanitary latrines, portable toilets, and portable restroom trailers. These are sustainable solutions in the event of barriers to proper sanitation.
"If there’s one thing that unites humanity, it’s the call of nature. But depending on where we live, it’s not always possible to dispose of our bodily waste safely and responsibly." - UN-Water
Portable toilets, compost toilets, and latrines have many health and environmental benefits! The Portable Sanitation Association International claims that 45 billion gallons of freshwater are saved annually through the use of portable restrooms. Portable toilets also help with preventing the spread of internal parasites, such as Giardia. A portable restroom or restroom trailer offers economical and feasible solutions in the event of sanitation issues.
People around the world have either non-existent or ineffective sanitation systems. Human waste gets out, and diseases spread, which negatively impacts health and child survival.
- Around 60% of the global population – 4.5 billion people – either have no toilet at home or one that doesn’t safely manage excreta.1
- Only 39% of the global population (2.9 billion people) use a safely managed sanitation service. 2
- Combined with safe water and good hygiene, improved sanitation could prevent around 842,000 deaths each year. 3
Potty Girl wants to bring awareness to the natural sanitation solutions for the World Toilet Day 2019 event!
